Trinational KTUR Summer School 2022 – a showcase of the benefits of trinational cooperation

The second edition of the trinational KTUR Summer School on Entrepreneurship took place between 29 August and 2 September 2022 in Strasbourg, Basel and Freiburg. 27 students from eight universities from the Upper Rhine region participated in an intensive week and developed business ideas into working business models.

The joint initiative of University of Strasbourg, University of Freiburg and the University of Applied Sciences of Northwestern Switzerland started in August 2021 with the first edition and a second edition was organized due to the very good feedback. The 27 students not only came from different universities but also had 13 different nationalities, study truly diverse subjects and are on different levels from second year bachelor to last year PhD.

Every day the students got inputs and time for their own group works. In the evening there were joint activities with a boat tour in Strasbourg, a visit to a dark restaurant in Basel and goodbye drinks in Freiburg. The summer school started with two days in Strasbourg. At the beginning the students pitched their own business ideas, voted for the best ones, and eventually formed five interdisciplinary and international groups to work on during the week. During the two days the students had inputs on problem statement, value proposition, competition and market analysis as well as pitching and used the tools learnt on their business ideas.

For the next two days, Basel was the host city with inputs on market entry, minimum viable product, financial planning, and team building. The participants developed prototypes and further defined their business model for their final presentations. On Friday, the students pitched their business models in the morning at the University of Freiburg in a very convincing manner. In the afternoon, the trinational jury provided feedback and gave inputs on the next steps to take to go to market with the business ideas using the different offerings in the three countries. Two teams won prizes – for the best project and the best team.

The working atmosphere was very inspiring and productive and the feedback from the students was outstanding. Besides the learning in class, the students could also benefit from the intercultural exchange and the networking. The organizational team currently works on the details to have a third edition in 2023.
